Biography

Inge Simonis is a Dutch designer based in Giesbeek, the Netherlands.
During her finale year at the Art and Design Academy St. Joost in Breda, she fell in love with ceramics. The feeling, the touch and the appearance of the material gave Simonis her destiny. At the academy she learned the idea of “form follows function”, but in ceramics she discovered it works when it feels good. She promised herself to get to know the material in each way possible.
Simonis designs and produces small and exclusive series of funtional objects, which range from tableware to vases and lamps. Her constant search for exploration can also result in pieces of art. Simonis likes to work from her own inspiration, that derives from architecture, nature and things surrounding her.
Her work is characterized by its clear and minimalist design, which is often underpinned by a sense of surprise and chance. Function is at the centre of her work, but Simonis enjoys playing and extending this concept, where she likes to be lead and surprised by coincidence and process. Her small series and unique pieces are all made-in-house.

Her mission

As a child you can be amazed by everything. But as you grow up we lose our openness and become dull. Simonis’ mission is to make the world a little better by adding beautiful colourful products that make you wonder again, just like you did as a child.
Up to now Simonis showed her work during various exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad, while chefs of Michelinstar restaurants know their way to her studio, where she designs and makes special dinnerware for them.

Vector & Shaw The Series made for Versmissen are deriving from Inge Simonis’ childhood dream to become an architect. During Covid-19 Simonis started working on a unique series of light objects as an homade to architecture. She studied numerous architects like Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright. The first series led to success and a new series was increasinglt expanded to include vases, plant pots and even wall lamps and mirrors specially made for Versmissen.
